Richard and Joseph's vegetarian take on the Dutch snack bar classic

This dish is my husband's absolute favourite. In many Turkish snack bars in The Netherland, you can find this dish, which apparently originated in Rotterdam. Its basically fries, topped with melted cheese, meat and salad. I taught my husband to make this vegetarian version with sweet potato fries and it has become a Friday night dinner favourite.

INGREDIENTS

  • 800gSweet potato oven fries (frozen)

  • 500g Vegetarian shawarma

  • Handful iceberg lettuce, shredded

  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced

  • ½ Cucumber, cut into thin strips

  • 2 tomatoes, cut into thin strips

  • 200g Dutch matured cheese (oude kaas), grated

  • Garlic mayonnaise

  • Sriracha sauce

METHOD

  • Place the sweet potato fries in a baking dish lined with baking paper and cook according to the instructions on the packet

  • Cook the shawarma in a pan according to the instructions on the packet

  • Once the fries are ready, remove from the oven and top with the shawarma and grated cheese

  • Return to the oven for 5-10 minutes

  • Remove from the oven and top with the remaining ingredients

  • Serve with the sriracha sauce and garlic mayonnaise

Enjoy! Joseph x
